Day 1: Phnom Penh to Battambang
We will start the day in the morning, leaving Phnom Penh after breakfast (any time between 7:30 and 9 am). We will stop along the way for lunch and check into the hotel in the afternoon. The drive is approximately 6-7 hours. We will tour Battambang in the afternoon, seeing Banan Temple (started building in 1050 and finished in 1218 by two different kings), and Phnom Sampeou Mountain (beautiful views, 3 natural caves and a temple on top). We will end our day at the bat caves where we can see thousands of bats leaving to hunt for food at dusk.
Day 2: Battambang Day Tour
We will see the sites in and around Battambang: we can take a short ride on the famous Bamboo Train, see Khmer noodles being made in a village, see sticky rice being cooked slowly over an open fire, and visit Ek Phnom Temple (11th century with a modern pagoda next to it). We will leave in the afternoon to go to Siem Reap.
Day 3: Medium Circle Tour of Temples
We recommend getting a certified guide so that you can get the best experience by learning more about the temples. For the “medium circle tour” we will see Banteay Kdei, Sras Srang, Pre Rup, East Mebon, Ta Som, Neak Pean and Preh Khan. This schedule is flexible and we can discuss which temples you would like to see on the route.
In the evening, we recommend seeing the performance of Phare, the Cambodian Circus (performing stories, dance, and amazing acts).
Day 4: Small Circle Tour of Temples
We will start our day early by watching the sunrise over Angkor Wat. We will tour the main temple of Angkor Wat, Bayon, Ta Keo and the famous Ta Prohm (held together by tree roots stretching across the temple).
Day 5: Further Temples outside Siem Reap
First we will go to Mount Kulen, where there are waterfalls and temples. There is an extra fee of $20 per person for this temple and we need to be there before 11 am because there is a one-way road up that becomes crowded later. After that, we will continue on to a hike to Kbal Spean, which is a small stream with linga carved into the riverbed, along with other carvings in the river rock. We will have lunch in the forest near the river. We will visit Banteay Srei, the famous pink temple.
Day 6: Siem Reap to Phnom Pehn
We can leave at a flexible time and make our way back to Phnom Penh, stopping for lunch along the way, for a drive of approximately 5-6 hours.
Cost for vehicles
– CAR with air-conditioning (provided from 1-4 person) is 505USD dollars.
– Mini Van with air-conditioning (provided for 5-7 people) is 615USD dollars.
